Planning Ahead: A New Deck

Never too early for a head start

Even though we’re still getting through this cold February, there’s no time like the present to start planning for those enjoyable warmer months, especially during a year when we all want to get out and enjoy the outdoors as much as we can after being cooped up so long!

Regular deck maintenance is important

A typical wooden deck that has been fairly well maintained will only ever last between 10 and 15 years, with a wide variance depending on the type of wood used to construct the deck. Regardless of the wear on the deck, they need to be inspected fairly regularly for any faults or issues. If upon inspection you’re noticing a deck with a lot of wood rot or chips in the wood, you could consider board replacement to try and salvage the deck, but this may be more hassle than it’s worth.

Should you replace your deck?

Depending on the integrity of your deck, you should weigh the costs associated between properly repairing and fully replacing a deck, weighed against the short and long term benefits. If you’re unsure of if your deck is needing repair or replacement, you can always reach out to the professionals at Tropical Sunrooms to help give you an idea of your best solution, and if necessary, a no obligation hassle free quote.

One great consideration for replacing a deck may be if you’re planning on moving in the near future. A poor quality deck will look poorly to any potentially interested buyers, whereas a new deck will increase overall properly value and be something you’ll be proud to have during viewings.

Aluminum decking lasts

Tropical Sunrooms usually recommends our Alumadeck product when considering a full replacement. Aluminum allows our product to be watertight, slip and weather resistant, without sacrificing strength or quality. Essentially maintenance free for the course of its life. AlumaDeck will not rust, crack, fade or degrade from the elements or UV exposure like wood, plastics or composites would. Being a thermal conductor, it also does not hold heat like other materials. Alumadeck will give you a brand new deck that will last for many years to come, and still look brand new!
